As part of the United States policy of expanding the population that goes back decades, the United States protects it's pregnant workers. There are similar reporting requirements as the Americans with Disabilities Act. If your pregnancy affects your work, make sure to report to a superior and make sure to get a doctor's note.
I can help you through all the steps required. Together, we may be able to allow you time off that is separate from the Family and Medical Leave Act, get accommodations to allow you to keep doing your current job and to ensure that your job is kept open for you once you return from your leave.
It may take as little as a letter to your employer from a qualified attorney keeping them up to date on the laws or it may require a full civil suit and investigation by a government body, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the Minnesota Department of Labor. Government bodies are neutral, so if you need an advocate to help you through the process or if you feel that the neutral body investigation will take too long (up to 2 years) than contact a private attorney to help you through this ordeal as quickly as possible.
If your boss, supervisor or someone from human resources
Forces you to take time off,
Terminates your job,
Demotes you because of your pregnancy,
Gives away your job while on pregnancy leave,
Makes threatening comments,
Or gives you the option of quitting or taking a lesser job
Please contact me right away. It is much easier to stop an employer from terminating your employment than going after them after it has already happened but either way your rights will be upheld. Make sure to document all incidents and come in for a free consultation.
